What is Islam?

The word Islam means "submission to the will of Allah", emphasizing devotion, peace, and righteousness.
Islam is a monotheistic religion that teaches belief in one God (Allah) and follows the guidance of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (peace be upon him) (مُحَمَّد صَلَّى ٱللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ) as the last and final messenger.
Meaning of Islam
It is the second-largest religion in the world, with over 1.9 billion followers.
The word Islam comes from the Arabic root "Salam", which means peace, submission, and surrender. It signifies submission to the will of Allah and attaining peace through obedience to Him.
Belief in One God (Tawheed)
Allah is one, eternal, and without partners or children.
He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.

Sawm (Fasting in Ramadan) – Abstaining from food, drink, and sins from dawn to sunset in the month of Ramadan.
Hajj (Pilgrimage to Mecca) – A once-in-a-lifetime obligation for those who can afford it.
Belief in Angels (Mala'ika)
Angels are created from light and carry out Allah’s commands.
Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) conveyed revelations to prophets.
Belief in the Holy Books
Allah revealed divine scriptures to guide mankind:
Quran (revealed to Muhammad ﷺ) – the final and preserved book.

The Quran was revealed over 23 years (610-632 CE) in Mecca and Medina.
It is preserved in its original Arabic language without alteration.
The Quran is the holy book of Islam, believed to be the word of Allah, revealed to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (PBUH) (مُحَمَّد صَلَّى ٱللّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ) over 23 years through Angel Jibreel (Gabriel). It is considered the final and most complete revelation of divine guidance for humanity.
